A wolf lifts her head in a quiet moment of instinct, breath rising into the light. The piece captures both strength and stillness, focusing on atmosphere, texture, and the raw presence of the animal. This piece was so special to create, probably the most complicated and detailed work I have created so far. She is inspired by the strong mothers I know, the strong mother I had and the mother I wish to be, protector of children and land. I love how this mushroom turns to blue inside once it oxidises, something I only recently learned about. There is always something new and magical to learn from nature and I love to express it in paint. Isolated against darkness, the subject takes on a sculptural presence part botanical study, part contemporary interpretation.
