A luminous moth suspended in darkness, its pale green wings unfolding like silk against the night. Painted in gouache, delicate layers of pigment create a soft translucency, while fine details trace the fragile structure of the wings and body. Set against a deep black ground, the subject appears almost illuminated quiet, otherworldly, and still.
I painted this after watching a wonderful documentary on these creatures, then i studied many images and videos until I had exactly what I wanted to create in my head. This piece has been fitted to this arch frame purposefully. I loved this combo, as my smaller paintings are often inspired by victorian botanical and insect studies.
